Secret Squirrel Spot

When we first moved to SDH, our neighbors told us about this secret Yuba River spot that was not more than a mile or so away from Seal Dove Hacienda. However, in recent times, it’s most direct access route had been closed off to through traffic by owners whose land is fortunate enough to lay close by the easement that connects a main road to this secret squirrely spot of the Yuba River.

It just so happened that today was the day that we were going to put our minds to it and try to locate this secret spot. Now, we knew we could not just go trekking through our neighbor’s land, but we were motivated to try to find this leetle oasis. We took route Marysville Rd. down to South Yuba River Park, passed the main entrance to this park and just about half a mile down the road, heading towards Grass Valley, CA, we happened upon some obscure road and decided to take a shot.

Oh boy are we glad we did! Traveling down this road (for sure not direct access and an off-roading adventure) we eventually came to a dead end that featured the most spectacular views of some part of the Yuba River. Cory was able to locate us on Google Maps (be aware there is no service in this area) and definitively confirmed we were set back just behind said neighbor’s land, about a mile southeast as the crow flies. Well, this journey to our new secret squirrel spot took about forty-five minutes. Not only worth it one million percent, but we feel like we can now call this secret spot ours too 😍
